Feeling like you need a break? Well what we’ve got to say will certainly be welcome news to you. One of the perks of being a contractor is the ability to take holidays whenever you like. Say bon voyage to the holiday allowance and step into a world where you’re the boss of your work and leisure.

We’ve done some digging and have found the best holiday destinations for contractors. Whether you prefer a short break or long beach holiday, keep reading for an idea of where you could be jetting off to next.

Distance yourself from the 9-5

We’ve already mentioned that you’ve got free reign over how many holidays you decide to take throughout the year, so what’s stopping you from taking a couple of weeks off? If you feel as if it’s been too long since your last break, then it could be time for a well-deserved relaxing trip away in the sun.

With miles of gorgeous beaches and crystal-clear waters, the Dominican Republic is a great holiday location. Picturesque mountains, sandy deserts, and sun-drenched beaches make this Caribbean gem a favourite. If your preference is to explore the area over soaking up the sun, there’s plenty of activities to take part in. For some of the most remarkable views of the country take the cable car and get a birds eye view of your surroundings.  It’s a breath-taking 10-minute journey that will take you 2,625 feet up the Isabel de Torres mountain. If you’re into history and architecture, then you’ll love the Catedral Primada de América. Built during the 16th century, this Gothic style building is the home of many celebrations to this day.

And… relax. Back to the beach. Punta Cana is the top beach destination, with white sand draped across every beach in sight. If you’re a fan of the turquoise hue, then there’s plenty here for you to dive into.

Are you pushed for time between contracts?

Have you finished a recent contract and have a couple of days free? You may as well use them to your advantage and take the time to recharge your batteries here in the UK; there’s no need to jet off when there’s opportunity for a great holiday right at home. With 885 square miles of stunning landscapes, mountains, lakes and coastline; we’re sure the Lake District has something for you. Wherever you choose to stay in this beautiful location, there’s always a place to visit or explore.

For the adventure seekers, there’s plenty of walks, hikes and treks; over 200 of these are listed in Wainwright’s Guide to the Lakeland Fells. For those who prefer a more relaxing holiday, attractions such as the Ullswater Steamers and The World of Beatrix Potter need to be at the top of your list.

Leave your home office and escape to the beach

If you’ve been busy working on assignments without a break, it could be time to start planning your next trip. Our next location offers the best of both worlds with its relatively short flight time and enjoyable climate all year round. Lanzarote has some spectacular sights and attractions, as well as glorious beaches to get a good dose of that much-needed sunshine.

There’s a spectacular contrast between beaches and volcanic landscapes, if you want to experience truly amazing surroundings then you must visit the Timanfaya National Park. This beautiful yet barren lunar landscape is a natural wonder to behold. The otherworldly experience is amplified by lava fields and black sand as far as the eye can see. You absolutely must add this popular tourist attraction to your list.

In terms of resorts and beaches, it depends on your personal preference. There are a handful of popular resorts such as Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen, and Playa Blanca. If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy resort, we would recommend taking a look at Arrieta, situated on the south-eastern coast of the island. With its unspoilt stretch of sand and large choice of restaurants, this provides a quieter alternative to the popular resorts.

Make the most of your free time

We know that everyone enjoys a holiday, but the traditional beach holiday isn’t every contractor’s cup of tea (or coffee – you choose). If you enjoy spending your holidays exploring winding streets and tourist attractions, then a city break could be just what you need. Here’s the best thing – if you need a break between contracts, there’s plenty of cities to explore.

We’ve chosen Rome as our city of choice, as it offers a perfect blend of history and culture to the millions of tourists that flock to this historic city. The average flight time lasts around three hours, making Rome the ideal destination.

Rome is the third most visited city in Europe, and the fourteenth worldwide. Discover amazing attractions such as the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Sistine Chapel. You could squeeze your trip to Rome in as little as a couple of days, making it the perfect choice for contractors pushed for time.

If you’re not a fan of the daily commute

This beautiful city can be explored in as little as a day. Yes, you heard us right – a day! If you’re a busy contractor that’s always on the move, then this destination needs to be added to your list if there’s a few days to spare before your next contract starts.

Paris is filled with exciting attractions and tours, and better yet it’s just over two hours on the train making it the perfect European destination for those who don’t like to fly. Whether you’re looking for a one-day break or a week-long getaway, there is plenty to do – and it’s so close that you can go more than once!

We know the Eiffel Tower and Louvre are on your list of places to visit, but you can easily miss some of the other attractions which are worth considering.

The river Seine runs right through the heart of Paris and there are a range of river cruises to choose from. Take in the sights from a different perspective all while being wined and dined.

Would you visit a country and not sample the delicious food it has to offer? We think not! Rue Montorgueil is the ultimate food market if you’re looking to indulge, no matter the time of day, there’s always something for you.
